obit: The Whiting Evening Times, Whiting Indiana wednesday 23rd May 1828,page 23: Hammond Pioneer died yesterday - Henry Rippe Sr., well-knownresident of Hammond´s north side died tuesday noon at his home, 56 Gostlin street. He has been a resident of Hammond for 39 years. Death followed an illness of four month. Mr. Rippe was born in Eitzendorf, Germany, 68 years ago. He came to Hammond in 1889 and for years was engaged in business on the north side. He served a number of years as Alderman of the First Ward, when the ward included practically all territory north of the Grand calumet river. Surviving are his wife, Mary; three sons,William, Henry and John, and three daughters, Elizabeth, Anna and Lillian. There are nine grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Klinker, and two brothers, William and Frederick Rippe, all of whomlive in Germany. The body will lie in state at the Neidow funeral homeuntil Thursday noon, when it will be removed to the home on Gostlin street. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o´clock from the home and at 2 o`clock from St. John´s evangelical lutheran church. Rev. Brauer will officiate and burial will be in Concordia cemetery.
