B16/13).He farmed in Hope Bagot and in Cainham, on land which Henleypromised to give him on his marriage to Jane, but which, afterPeter's death, he gave to Peter's son Richard for his lifetime.This Richardin fact did not need it, acquiring a large estatein Limehouse, London,as well as inheriting his Morrisgrandfather's manor house, Rochford Hall. He married oneMargaret, by whom he had in 1684 a son, James.Peter died in 1659. His will is in the P.R.O., ref. 1659 fo.220 Pell.In 1677Peter's widow Jane (or Johanna) and her eldest son,Richard, sued a William Powis, linen draper of St Clement Danesin Co. Middx., over board and lodging he had or had not given toher two youngest sons, Peter and Thomas. Some money was allegedto have been deposited with Thomas Rudge,a kinsman to both ofthem. Since Rudge was the husband of Winifred, sister of PeterPowys dec'd, it looks as if the draper William was Peter'ssonby his first marriage. Rudge would have been uncle by marriageto all of them.Jane and Richard were also involved, as defendants, in a seriesof suits brought by her Morris relatives. Indeed, in 1703,under a Writ of Execution, she and Richard were ordered to meetthe Morrises in the church porch at Clun, and there hand over tothem the money they owed. They failed to comply, and she evadedthe next writ by hiding in herhouse. They were then tried forcontempt of court.Jane was a tough oldboot in more ways than one. She outlivedher husband by 63 years, by which time only one of her sons wasstill alive.
