NOTE: Burke LG 1937: "He purchased and restored to ecclesiastical usethe Church of St John, Clerkenwell (which had been built by theknights ofSt John) and for the benefit of the inhabitants ofRed Lion Street, which he had built. The portraits of he andhis wife are preserved in thevestry and their monument is inthe church in the crypt of which there were buried (the coffinswere subsequently removed to Woking). This ceased to be aparish church in 1930 and was constituted the prioral churchforthe Grand Priory for the British realm of the Venerable Order oftheHospital of St John of Jerusalem in 1931."
