Notes for this person

He went with the ship Sea Venture on a voyage to Jamestown, Virginia in1609 as a minister's clerk, but the ship wrecked in the "Isle of Devils" in the Bermudas. He was the only Mayflower passenger with prior NewWorld experience, having been shipwrecked in Bermuda in 1609 and arriving at Jamestown, Virginia in May 1610. Hopkins left Jamestown in 1614 and returned to England.

Hopkins's biographers had long stated he had originated in Wortley, Gloucester, and had married Constance Dudley, but this claim was disprovenin 1998 with the discovery of his origins in Hursley.
