Countess Malin was in love with her first cousin Erik Stenbock since adolescence, but fist cousins were not easily allowed to marry in that time and culture. Malin's mother and Erik's aunt, the strong-willed Dowager Countess Märta of Vestervik and Stegeholm prohibited their marriage.Ultimately, on 10 March 1573, Countess Malin was taken from the Horningholm castle by her paramour and they fled. Married without any relatives present. It took two years for Malin to reconcile with her mother. (Leo van de Pas)
