Notes for this person

Famed advertising executive. Founder of the Hewitt, Ogilvy, Benson & Mather agency in New York in 1948. Developed among other advertising icons the Hathaway shirt ads with the man wearing the eye patch (per Mary Bahr: who was George Wrangell (1903-1969)-Wrangell was in Paris in 1931,the same year Ogilvy went to Paris and became a sous chef. Wrangell was an aristocrat and it made sense that both men most likely met that year and likely in the restaurant where Ogilvy worked. When Ogilvy becamean ad mogul in New York, he most likely would have remembered Wrangelland got him as the type of debonair model Ogilvey was looking for in the First Hathaway shirt campaign), Commander Edward Whitehead for Schweppes soda, and Dove soap (one-quarter cleansing cream). Published: Confessions of an Advertising Man (1963), Blood, Brain & Beer (1978), and Ogilvy on Advertising (1983). Burial is in France, near Bonnes in the Loire Valley-record below will be updated when other country entries arepossible.
