Passed away at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, MI, 28 September 1988 after an operation for gastro-esophogeal reflux disease which was successful, but developement of post operative infections resulted in the death.
Shirley was born in Petoskey MI, 25 May 1934, the daughter of Milton Anson and Marian Catherine (Amstutz) Cory. Graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in the one-hundred-tent class, 12 June 1952.
On 15 August 1953, She was united in marriage to Heinrich (Henry) August Asenbauer, at Texas Corners Congregational Church, Kalamazoo, MI (Texas Township).
Among her occupations were - employee of Upjohn Drug Co., Kalamazoo, MI, in the 1950's; waitress at Light's Restaurant, Lansing MI; dental assistant to Dr. Allen F. Bush, DDS, Lansing MI [voted the first Dental assistant of the year, in Michigan]. She had retired from the Kalamazoo School System as an Para-professional.
She enjoyed cross-stitch and knitting. She especially enjoyed traveling with her friend, Bea Clawson. Shirley and Hank provided rental housing for CARES (Community AIDS Resource and Education Services).
She was preceded in death by her father, 7 October 1996 and her husband, 17 April 1995. She is survived by her mother; a brother, Robert Vance and his wife Netta Cory of Missouri; sons Marko-Michael Kirk and Brian Cory Asenbauer of Oshtemo, MI; daughter, Julianne Marie and her husband David Huss of Paw Paw; two grand daughters, Lydia Marie Huss and Camille Elise Huss.
An 11:00 A. M. funeral service was held 2 October 1988 at Stockbridge United Methodist Church (1331 Race Street), Kalamazoo, MI., where she was a member.
Interment immediately followed the service at Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, 3941 S. Westnedge Ave., Kalamazoo, MI, block D, section 224, Garden of the Apostles.
