Notes for this person
Jeannie's family travelled from Scotland to Hobart on the barque Katherine Shearer. She was born on board and was only 10 days old when near Hobart the ship caught fire and all passengers had to abandon ship. They were picked up by the iron paddle steamer Mimosa and transferred to Hobart. The ship had a cargo of kerosine and exploded, however no one was on board and no passengers were injured.
