Notizen zu dieser Person

This branch of the Dietz family had lived for many generations in Rieschweiler-Mühlbach, a municipality which is now in the Südwestpfalz district of the Rhineland-Palatinate in western Germany. At different times in history the town has been administrated from Zweibrucken to the west, and Piramasens to the east. A great number of the Pennsylvania Dutch had come from this region. See: BURGERT, ANNETTE KUNSELMAN. Eighteenth Century Emigrants from German-Speaking Lands to North America, Volume II pages 93-94. Publications of the Pennsylvania German Society, 16/19). Johan Adam Dietz was the son of Henrich of Eschweiler and married Anna Catherine Abel on 17 November 1722 at the Evangelical Church of Eschweiler (also known as Rieschweiler). Catharine was the daughter of Johann Georg Abel ofStuderhoff by Keyserlautern. Soon after the birth of their daughter Louisa in 1725, the family moved a few miles east to Nuenschweiler where a number of the children were baptized. Many years later, their daughter Barbara would record her birthplace as Eschweiler. However, she was probably born at Nuenschweiler, where she and several of her siblings were baptized. Adam and family emigrated to Philadelphia in 1739. Adam Dietz appears to be listed as "Hans Adam Teetze" or "Hans Adam Peits" on the manifest of the Loyal Judith, commanded by Edward Painter and arrived at Philadelphia on 3 September 1739. The date of immigration is supported by land records. On 14 November Adam acquired a warrant for 100 acres of land in what was then Bucks County and is now Upper Milford Township, Lehigh County. Based on baptismal records at Reischweiler, Nuenschweiler, and Pennsylvania, Adam and Catharine had at least 11 children: (1) Anna Elizabeth, (2) Anna Louisa, (3) J. George, (4) Anna Catharine, (5) J. Jacob, (6) Anna Margaretha, (7) Christian, (8) Anna Barbara, (9) Adam, (10) Henry and (11) Nicholas Dietz. His wife Anna Catharine and several children are buried in Plainfield Cemetery, Wind Gap, Northampton Co., Pennsylvania also known as St. Peter's Union Church Cemetery, Plainfield Twp., Northampton Co. Pennsylvania. Johann Adam's burial site has not been located at this time. The middle children appear to have moved as a group to lands near a Moravian settlement in North Carolina. The Moravians were active in both regions, and they probably moved with other families among whom werethe Moravians. Those Dietz children who stayed were those who were already married and seated on land, and the youngest children who were still in their parent's household. The youngest child Nicholas, settled on his father's lands in Lehigh County.
