Notes for this person
Er wurde auf dem Hoppers - Wagoner Family Cemetery im Alleghany County beigesetzt It has been recalled that Franklin taught school in his early years. Also, according to the Alleghany County 1976 Book in the Millitary Section, "Franklin J. Hoppers enlisted in the Civil War in Alleghany county on May 3, 1862". After Franklin and Elizabeth separated, Franklin moved to Greencone, VA, near Whitetop, VA. After living there for sometime, he bought a farm in Crandull, TN. According to Mrs. Belle Hackler, grand daughter of Franklin, Franklin married "Duck" Stamper in his later years and lived there until his death. He was found dead on his porch, January 15, 1918. His wife Duck, who was sick had gone to stay with her children and left a young boy to take care of Franklin. The boy had gone home for the weekend; a neighbor didn't see any smoke so he went to check and found him frozen on the back porch. J.L. Garland at Crandull, TN was the administrator of his will. Also, Mrs Belle Hackler recalls that Franklin's body was shipped back to Galax, VA by train. Her father and Franklin's son Floyd Hoppers and Frank Wagoner, with Frank's big team of horses and wagon, went to pick up the body. They left Wednesday morning from the Everett Hopper's Store at Whitehead; but due to the drifted snow, they couldn't travel by the road and had to tear patches of fence out so they could go through the fields. They didn't return until late Saturday evening; and took Franklin's body to his daughter and son-in-law's home (Laura and Linville Richardson). The funeral was Sunday morning at Landmark Union Baptist Church and Franklin was buried in the Hoppers cemetery; on Letcher Edward's property at Whitehead, NC in Alleghany County.
