Studebaker Automobile company owner and President. Originally a wagonmaker by trade, he traveled to California to try his hand at goldmining.Instead of striking it rich with gold, he determined that he could supply the miners with tools that they needed and began turning out Studebaker wheelbarrows.
Leaving a successful business building wheelbarrows for the miners, hereturned to his hometown with $8,000.00 and bought out one of his brothers to became a partner in the Studebaker Wagon company.
The company eventually went on to become the Studebaker Automobile company. John was the only one of the original 4 Studebaker brothers to survive to see the company build automobiles.
