Thomas BIRD

<p>Death information is reference 370--Queensland Births,Deaths and Marriages.</p><p><p>Buried in the older section of the Mt.Isa cemetery Plot 370.</p></p><p><p>Thomas travelled from Charters Towersby horse and dray with his wife and three children to take up a Selection of land near Duchess about 1915.</p></p><p><p>The property is known as Malbon Vale Station. They ran cattle and sheep but times were hard with no real value until after World War11.</p></p><p><p>The property was sold to Bert Letts and family. Thomas's eldest son---John (snr) was caretaker at Malbon Vale during his last years.Reference to this fact is shown on his grave plaque. John's daughter Dianne married into the Letts's family.</p><p><p>Thomas suffered from skin cancer and applied vaseline and arsenic to try and contol it spreading.This method failed and Thomas lost his life to cancer.My father Keith Bird was telling me this story and he started to cry and stood up and walked away leaving many other questions unanswered.</p><p><p>Thomas was always a big mystery to his ongoing family as no one had a photograph of him. One photograph came to life in1988 after my grandmother (Mary Barrett) passed away .It is estimated it was taken 1921-1922.My father was the youngest child in the photograph and he was born in 1919.</p><p><p>It appears to me that possibly brother and sister Thomas and Annie (Amy) Bird married brother and sister Ann and Bill Kerrisk.</p></p><p>Another piece of the puzzle is mention of "Riverview Selection" now part of Ashover Station was 40 square miles in area and valued at 5 shillings per square miles in 1937.</p>
