Notes for this person

From Wessel-Drieling-Kunz family history --

Anna Metta Haar was born Feb 13, 1840, in Berne, Grandduchy, Oldenburg, Germany. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was married to Johann Herman Drieling (born Jun 11, 1827, in Hude, Grandduchy, Oldenburg, Germany) on Nov 25, 1864, in the church at Hude and lived there until 1870. They then sold all their property and left the old home for far-off American on March 9, 1870. Leaving from Bremenhaven to Baltimore and arrived in Fremont, Nebr. April 1, 1870, in Dodge County, Nebr. where the old neighbors, the Herman Voigt family took them in. Here they found most of their old neighbors again and so acquired a homestead of 80 acres. They built a sod house into which they moved Jul 17, 1870, and lived there until 1895 when a new home was built. In 1873 on Jan 15, Mr Drieling passed away, much too soon for his wife and three small children. The climate and hardships of a new country were too much for him and a lung disease took him away. When he died, a definite place for the St Paul's cemetery had to be decided upon. He was the first person buried there, then just an openprairie.

They had three children: Heinrich Gerhard (Henry) and Catherine Margaret, both born in Germany, and Anna Sophie, born in Nebraska.

Mrs Drieling's brother Fred Haar came over fromGermany with them.

On April 29, 1875, the widow Drieling was married to Diedrich L Wessel (born Nov 21, 1840, at Adelheide in Oldenburg, Germany).

They had five children: Hermine Amalie (Minnie), Anna Mathilde (Tillie), Gesine Rebecca, Lousise Johanne, and Diedrich Albert.

They lived their lives on the homestead in thecommunity known as "Section 12" in Cuming Township, Dodge Co. Nebraska. Diedrich passed away Nov 3, 1909. Anna passed away peacefully on Aug 9, 1926, after a few days illness due to old age.

From Ancestry.com Albert Rohlfs tree -- Note: Eileen says she was nice.
