G. Vogel on South Minnesota Street. Death was due to old age and the usual complications of advancing years. He had been in bed for only two days. Before that he took his walk up town almost every day. The deceased was born in Mecklenberg, Schwerin, Germany, August 28, 1830 and was therefore nearly 88 years old when he passed away. He came to America with his parents August 16. 1854, first stopping in Chicago where they remained but a short time, coming west from there and arriving in New Ulm June 28, 1855. The deceased took a homestead in the town of Milford where he lived until after the Indian Massacre. Since that timehe has lived in New Ulm continuously. In the early days he did some teaming from St. Paul to New Ulm over the original trail beore the railroad was built. For the first two years after he moved to NewUlm he looked after his farm from here. Afer that time he went onto the general mercantile business with his brother and continued in business for almost 40 years when he retired. He was united in marriage October 21, 1857 to Bertha Ballschmeider who preceded him in death a little over ten years ago. Their married life was a very happy one and they had the pleasure of celebrating their Golden wedding October 21, 1907. Seven children were born to them of whom the following five survive: Mrs. Ida Bobleter, Mrs. L.G. Vogel and Fred Behnke of New Ulm; Mrs. Robert Hartmann of St. Paul, Dr. AlbertE. Behnke of Milwaukee. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Altho the deceased did not take a keen interest in the political affairs of the city, still he was an ardent supporter of every movement which tended to enhance and improve the conditions of the city. He was councillor for several terms. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from his late home and interment was made in the city cemetery. Albert Steinhauser delivered the funeral address.
