Notes for this person

  1. Willis or William Willis Brockman owned land in Ray county, MO. He

bought 80 acres in the W 1/2 SE 1/4 Sec 11-51-28 on 26 Feb 1838 and he

sold this farm in 1840.

  1. Other deeds were seen for 1844 (his wife was mentioned in the deed),

1855 and 1859 (no wife mentioned) and 1860 (no wife mentioned).

  1. No wife was listed in the 1860 census.

  2. No records were seen in Ray county, MO for Elizabeth (Rees) Brockman or

for sons George W. or Joseph, that is, records that had a positive

relationship.

  1. An 1830 census record in Ralls county MO gives information about a

Willis Brockman but I doubt that this is the same Willis as RIN 1665)

who was a son of Jacob E. Brockman. (1----2-------31---1). Jacob's

son, Willis, was born about 1812 so he would have been about 18 years

old at the time of the 1830 census: the above notation from the 1830

census indicates two males in the family and they were in the 30-40 age

group; so, this cannot be Jacob's son.

  1. The Ray county, MO marriage records (book 3:50) has an entry for the

marriage of George W. Brockman, M.D. to Emilie Terry on 9 May 1855.

I do not believe that this is Willis'son for, according to census

information, he would only be 12 years old.

  1. Willis and two of his four sons were killed during the Civil War. All

three had enlisted in Company D, 1st Missouri Cavalry and all were

privates.

---Willis (William W. or W.W., or William Willis) was killed in action

at the Battle of Pea Ridge (also known as the Battle of Elkhorn Tavern;

Pea Ridge was also called Pea Vine Ridge) on the second day of the

battle. The battle occurred 6-8 Mar 1862 and was in Benton county,

AR--the home county of Dennis and Beston Callaghan and their families.

According to United Daughters of the Confederacy records he was killed

on 7 Mar 1862.

  1. The Confederate dead from the Battle of Pea Ridge were taken to

Fayetteville, Arkansas for burial. Willis was buried in the Confederate

Cemetery in Fayetteville; most of the tombstones in this cemetery do not

have names or inscriptions so it is impossible to locate his exact grave.

  1. Elizabeth Rees Brockman must have died sometime after the birth of the

last son in 1849 and the recording of the 1850 census.
