Gefallen im Stellungskrieg vor Dünaburg.
Die im Oktober 1915 erreichten Linien in der Waldstellung an der Illuxt (südöstl. Tannenfeld) wurden ausgebaut. So entstand der Abschnitt „Hannover“, während sich der Abschnitt „Hildesheim“ von der Schlucht nördlich Tannenfeld längs des Weges nach Illuxt hinzog.
Die Gefallenen des Regiments wurden auf dem Waldfriedhof Gekeli bestattet.
Das Regiment 259 wurde aus den im November 1914 aufgestellten Feldinfanterie Btl. 49, 50 (beide Hannover),
51 (Hameln / Hildesheim) am 28.12.1914 in Munsterlager zusammengestellt und trat am selben Tage zur
- Reserve Division. Der Regimentsstab wurde in Oldenburg (Erzherzogtum) zusammengestellt.
