  Das Haus Weissenfels ist ein kleines Adelsgeschlecht aus dem Herzogtum Kärnten. Mit ihrem Fleiß und ihrer Tapferkeit brachten sie es im Gailtal in Kärnten zu einem kleinen Stück Land, über welchem Richard Weissenfels (1017-1059) eine Grafschaft errichtete. Sein einziger überlebender Sohn Martin Weissenfels (1036-1100) sollte diese Grafschaft über sein Leben weiterführen, da sein ältesterSohn Gustav Weissenfels (1063-1111) nach dem ersten Kreuzzug von 1096 im heiligen Land verblieb. Im Jahre 1110 Gebar Helena Weissenfels, geb. Tierstätt (1069-1111) ihm die Zwillinge Albert und Emil Weissenfels. Nach einer Reise von Jerusalem aus nach Antiochia kehrten beide nie zurück. Somit wurden die Zwillinge von Familie zu Familie herumgereicht und landeten schließlich, noch in jungem Alterin den ottonischen Landen. Sie sind die einzigen bekannten Überlebenden der einst kleinen, aber stolzen Familie.
