Betz age 79 of St. Anthony passed away at 6:06 P.M. Tuesaday November 6, 2007 at Jasper Memorial Hospital. He was born October 19, 1928 at Schnellville to: John and Arlina (Miller) Betz. He married Anna Klem May 4, 1950. He worked for Hasenour Motor Company in St. Anthony, he then was co-owner of Al and Ernies Garage in St. Anthony where her retired. He then worked part-time for Knies Sawmill in St. Anthony. Memberships include: St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society,original member of the St. Anthony Volunteer Fire Department where he served actively for 31 years and was currently on the Board of Directors, member of St. Anthony Community Center, St. Vincent DePaul and a former Southeast School Board member. Surviving: his wife Anna Betz of St. Anthony. 2 sons- Stan Betz of Jasper, Dave Betz of St. Anthony. 1 daughter-Martha Wehr of St. Anthony., 4 Brothers-Leo and Eugene Betz both of Schnellville, Joe of Huntingburg, and Richard of Dale. 5 sisters-Sr. Bede and Sr. Lucia of Lady of Grace Convent at Beech Grove IN., Mrs. Linus (Margaret) Knies of St. Anthony, Frances Schepers of Hopkinsville KY., Mrs. Bernie )Erlene) Gehlhausen of Newburgh. 6 Grandchildren 1 great grandson Preceded in death by 3 sisters-Clara Mae Hohl, Augusta Hopf, and Josepha Betz who died in infancy. Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. There will be a Rosary at 4:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home by St. Anthony Parish. The St. Anthony Volunteer Fire Dept. will have a memorial service at 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday November 9, 2007 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Anthony Church or the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center.
