Ransom died May 23, 1992, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was born June 22, 1925, in Bloomfield to William C. and Ethel Faye Lawson Dillner. He married Norma Wager on Dec. 25, 1950. A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he served with the Ottumwa Police Department for 23 years, retiring in 1972. He served in World War II with the Army and was a Scout leader for more than 20 years. He was a member of Iowa State Police Officers Association, Chief of Police and Peace Officers Association and was past commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 1 of Wapello County. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Carol Anne Arens of Battlefield, Mo.; a son, Jeff of Ottumwa; two grandchildren; and a sister, Maurine Foster of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Oris and an infant, Carl Gene. The service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, the Rev. Kendall Holder of First Church of God officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa. O.B. Nelson Post 3 of American Legion is in charge of military services at the grave. Pallbearers will be Steve Kick, Stephen Foster, Jack Wagner, Bob Robinson and Dean Arens. Visitation is open. Memorials may be made to Wapello County Chapter of Disabled American Veterans.
