Taken from the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home Webpage & Columbia Daily Tribune Ernest Miller Vroman Ernest Miller Vroman of Fayette, Missouri passed away Tuesday May 8, 2012 at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia, Missouri. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday May 15 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette with interment at the Fayette City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 14 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Fayette First Baptist Church or Howard County Fairgrounds Association. Miller was born to Ernest Henry Vroman and Mattie Jennings Vroman September 22, 1918 in a farm home east of New Franklin, Missouri. He grew up on a farm in the New Franklin area and although an only child enjoyed the company of several counsins, aunts, and uncles. His father raised horses and mules and in addition to riding used them for field work. In the early 1930's they both were hired to help build Highway 240 in south Howard County. Each furnished a team and scraper and they received $1.50 for a 10 hour day. On September 22, 1939 he married Marjorie Marie Noll from the Glasgow area. In 1945 they purchased a farm east of Fayette and lived there until June of 2011 when they moved to Golden Living Center in Glasgow. Miller loved working with horses and was particularly good working with young horses. He and Marjorie were avid trail riders and belonged to several saddle clubs. They particularly enjoyed over night rides and the week long rides in the Ozarks. He also was an avid quail hunter and hunted until his late 80s. A day in the field with gun, dogs, and family or friends was a day in paradise. Miller and Marjorie loved to travel and vacationed with numerous family and friends. Another of their many interests was dancing. Many Saturday nights were spent doing the 2-step or their favorite dance - the waltz. In their later years he became a very active member of the McDonald's coffee club. He is survived by his wife of 72 plus years; a son, Dr. Kenneth Vroman (Linda); grandsons, Mathew K. Vroman (Diane) of Harper Woods, MI and Paxton M. Vroman (Casey) of Fayette; and great-granddaughters, Mattie, Betty, Anne, and Marie Vroman of Harper Woods, MI.
