Mencer Smith, 84, of Clearfield, passed away on January 17 at her home. Born on June 19, 1924 in Grampian, she was the daughter of Russell A. and Minnie I. (Kephart) Wertz. Mrs Smith was a Homemaker and had worked at Murphy's, Ames, Super Duper and Mercy Mission. She had also worked for the Penn Grampian School as a cafeteria cook. She was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield and the Grampian United Methodist Church. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Penn Grampian Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and the Grampian Grange. Mrs. Smith is survived by four children: Marion D. Mencer, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Indiana, PA, Madeline "Sue" Buchanan of Florida, Kenneth W. Mencer and his wife Nancy of Fallentimber, PA, and Dorothy J. Snyder of Clearfield, three step children: Roger Buchanan and his wife Barb of Vermont, Roben E. Smith and his wife Elva of North Carolina and Peggy Montevirgen and her husband Ted of Florida, 13 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Marion Mencer, Sr., her second husband, Edward H. Smith, a son, Robert J. Mencer, five brothers: Russell, Kenneth, Carlton, Dean and Joe Wertz, and two sisters: Dorothy Wertz and Jessie Graham. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Jan. 21 at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield with Rev. Robert L. Rupp officiating. Interment will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Jan. 20 form 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services.
