Notes for this person
Bill Wolden, 78, met Jesus on Oct. 26, 2014 with his family by his side at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, after a well fought battle with cancer. William Herbert Wolden, known as Bill, was born on Jan. 28, 1936 in Minneapolis. He graduated from Central High School in Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota. He married Marlys Miller in 1957 and resided in Minneapolis, Watertown, S.D., and Duluth. Bill worked as a sales representative for Hallmark Cards for 25 years and then became CEO of Pam's Hallmark, Inc. He was also owner of Mister Donut and Joyce's Caf in Duluth. He was a long time member of Chester Park United Methodist Church in Duluth until it closed in 2012. At the time of his death, he was a member of First United Methodist Church in Duluth. He began his journey with Christ in Andrew Riverside Church in Minneapolis. Over the years, Bill was extensively involved in many church ministries. He is best known as 'Grandpa Boat' because fishing was his passion! Bill's favorite place was at his cabin in Aitkin, Minn. This had been a haven for family and friends since Bill was eight years old. His other interests included bowling, pheasant hunting, playing cards, pegs, stock club and doing the Sudoku and crossword puzzles in the daily newspaper. Bill was an avid sports fan, never missing a Twins game on TV. Family and friends were extremely important to Bill. This was evident by having over 21,000 visits on his Caring Bridge site since March, 2014. The staff at the Solvay House was amazed by the number of visitors Bill received. Bill is preceded in death by his parents: Herbert and Margaret Wolden and his sister Betty Endicott. Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marlys: three daughters: Cindy (Scott) Hedlund of Duluth, Pam (Todd) Schilling of Prior Lake, Minn., and Deb (T.J.) Ruskell of Burnsville, Minn.; seven amazing grandchildren: Preston Hedlund, Travis (Christina) Schilling, Cassi and Becca Schilling and Lexi and Madison Ruskell. He was also grateful for his loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 in First United Methodist Church in Duluth with service at 12 Noon, followed by lunch. In lieu of flowers, Bill's family suggests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church in Duluth or to Solvay Hospice House Foundation in Duluth.ert Wolden, known as Bill, was born on Jan. 28, 1936 in Minneapolis.
