Edward John "Bud" VESELY

WILLIAMSBURG -- Edward J. "Bud" Vesely Jr., 82, of Williamsburg, died Monday, March 22, 2004, in English Valley Care Center in North English following an extended illness with Parkinson's disease. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg. Burial: Oxford Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at St. Mary's Parish Hall in Williamsburg and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements with Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established. He is survived by his wife, Colleen; two daughters, Ellen Folkmann of Williamsburg and Mary Sue Hopp and husband Larry of Conroy; two sons, Tom and wife Sandy of Council Bluffs and John and wife Geri of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren, Michele Dietze of South Amana, Dawn Folkmann of Parnell, Deanne Folkmann of Willliamsburg, Kristina Kocour of Olathe, Kan., Kara Hettinger of San Diego, Amanda Vesely of Omaha, Neb., Benjamin Vesely of Dubuque, Craig Vesely of Cedar Falls, Beau Vesely of Dubuque, Rachel Hopp of Iowa City and Erin Hopp of Conroy; and two great-grandchildren, Anna and Alex Kocour. Also surviving are a brother, Ray Vesely of Bellingham, Wash., and two sisters, Charlotte Campbell of Tiffin and Beatrice Kesselring of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Barbara, and a son, William, in infancy, and a son-in-law, Larry Folkmann. Edward J. "Bud" Vesely Jr. was born March 6, 1922, in rural Iowa County, the son of Edward Sr. and Helen Jelinek Vesely. He attended the Berry and York Township rural schools and graduated from Parnell High School in 1941. He married Colleen Gorvin on Nov. 9, 1945, at the First Federated Church in Oxford. The couple farmed in the York Township for many years before moving to Williamsburg in 1990. Bud also worked at Amana Refrigeration for 23 years before declining health prompted him to take early retirement in 1978. Bud enjoyed fishing, and following sports, especially the Williamsburg Raiders, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
