Aus Find A Grave: Douglas William Berg BIRTH unknown DEATH 12 Nov 2006 Nova Scotia, Canada BURIAL Hillcrest Cemetery Lunenburg, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Canada MEMORIAL ID 155287983 · View Source Douglas William Berg 2006 Halifax Chronicle Herald (From the collection of Charlene Veinotte) Douglas William Berg, Lunenburg, passed away November 12, 2006, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital following a heroic battle with cancer. Douglas was a son of the late Sinclair and Mabel (Demone) Berg. His father was originally from Port Elgin, New Brunswick and his mother from Lunenburg. Douglas was raised in Lunenburg and started his working career with the Lunenburg Foundry Garage. In the 1950's and 1960's he was a mainstay for many inshore fishermen as a skilled mechanic who kept their vessels running. He later moved to Oakville, Ontario where he worked for several years with Oakville Dodge. He and his wife Joan returned to Nova Scotia and lived in New Elm and he worked with Saunders Motors in Bridgewater until his retirement. Doug moved back to Lunenburg in recent years where he and his wife lived on Tannery Road. Doug was an honourary life member of the Lunenburg Fire Department and a former member of the Orangemen's Lodge. He was an avid hunter and sport fisherman. Doug is survived by his wife, Joan; son, Chris (Norma Jean) Berg, Orangeville, Ontario; brother, Lawrence (Betty) Berg, Mahone Bay; grandchildren, Elaina and Rebecca. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, where a memorial service to celebrate Doug's life will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m., Rev. Edwin Bastian officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lunenburg Fire Department or Canadian Cancer Society.
