Notes for this person
At the age of nineteen Otto Schuetze left his family in Germany. He sailed to America and never saw them again. About five years after he came to America he married Emma Rinn on January 9, 1888 in New Ulm, Texas. They were blessed with 10 children--5 boys and 5 girls--which included two sets of twins. Life was full of hardships for the Schuetze family. They were tenant farmers and when their crop failed, they lost most of their possessions. They lived in several different places and always worked hard to try to make a better life for themselves. They eventually settled in Milam County and were able to buy a few acres where they built a home. They were charter members of St. John Lutheran Church in Burlington. Otto died of a heart attack at the young age of sixty-four. Emma survived him by 17 years.
