Dinger will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church of Hecla. Visitation will be one hour preceding the funeral. Pastor Jay Haaland will officiate, and inurnment of her cremains will take place at a later date in the Hecla Cemetery. The Price Funeral Chapel of Britton has been entrusted with Joyce's arrangements. Joyce Lois Dinger was born November 19, 1921, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Millard and Evalena (Sanders) Fetters. The Fetters moved many times during Joyce's youth and she attended rural schools in Brown, Marshall and Minnehaha Counties, SD, earning merits for attendance and a spelling bee contest during these years before graduating from the 8th grade in Marshall County. Joyce lived with her eldest brother, George (Esther) Fetters after graduating and worked in many homes in the Hecla and Claremont area. It was during this time she got to know a couple Dinger brothers. Orville and Joyce were united in marriage on September 5, 1940, at the Courthouse in Webster, SD, with Hubert and Myrtle Dinger as their witnesses. They moved in with Arnold (Laura) Valentine when they were first married before eventually moving to the farm location where they would spend the rest of their lives and raised their family. Joyce, a homemaker, was active over the years in Lady's Aid, Rebecca's and Eastern Star, an avid bowler on leagues in Hecla and Claremont for years. Joyce and Orville enjoyed going on many trips including Canada fishing or to casinos with Bud and Ione Nelson or Don and Carol Dinger. She crocheted many beautiful afghan's, made quilts or embroidered pillowcases for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for her cooking, especially her homemade noodles for her chicken soup or popcorn balls, Joyce was skilled at fixing a large meal thanks to her jars of canned meats and vegetables when Orville invited extra mouths for a meal. They hosted many hunters, and family and friends during the annual Fetters family reunions. Orville passed away on September 18, 1998. Joyce continued to live in the farmhouse until health reasons made it necessary to move into Good Samaritan in Oakes, ND, where she passed in her sleep on May 8, 2014 at the age of 92. Grateful for having shared her life are her four children: Gerald (Darlene) Dinger of Britton; Linda (Mahlon) Spurr of Houghton, SD; Arnold Dinger of Hecla, SD; Ronald (Kathy) Dinger of Rock Rapids, IA; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, plus spouses; many nieces and nephews; Preceding her in death were her husband, Orville; all of her siblings; a granddaughter, Cheryl, and 2 great granddaughters, Allison and Alicia.
