From the 1987 and 1997 Myott Family Reunion Books: Octive was always a very hard worker. She and Julius separated when the children were very small, so she raised all six children by herself. She loved her family very much and had a strong faith in God, which helped her a lot during tryig times. Octive's home was always open to anyone and they were always welcome to eat or sleep. Something Mamie remembers about her mother is waking up in the morning and finding a new dress laying there that her mother had made while she was sleeping. As a grandmother, Octive had plenty of love for all of her 19 grandchildren, and all 28 great grandchildren. "None of us could have asked for a more loving and understanding grandmother" said Carol Blumenshein Loomis. "She was always very patient and understanding under all circumstances." (ed note: in her later years you could count on a huge bowl full of peanut butter blossom cookies at family gatherings. I never see a peanut butter blossom cookie that I don't think of Aunt Octive).
