Elna Teresa SMITH

Elna Teresa SmithCorpus Christi, TX Elna Teresa Smith passed away on October 7, 2014 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was 86 years old. She was born on September 2, 1928 to the late Cyril Francis and Helena Irene Smith in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Elna graduated from Delone Catholic High School and went on to graduate 'cum laude' from Millersville State College and earned her Masters of Education at Shippensburg University. Elna was a member of Conewago Chapel for many years were she sang in the choir. She was also dedicated to Girl Scouting as a member and leader. Elna taught at Markle Intermediate School, Annunciation School and Gettysburg Junior High in Pennsylvania and spent one summer teaching in Brooklyn New York. After retiring from South Western School District in Hanover, Pennsylvania she moved to live with her brother C. Philip Smith and his wife Marilyn Sneeringer Smith in Corpus Christi, Texas where she worked for years at Smith's Guns, volunteered at the Aquarium and Art Center. She was a member of the St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church where she sang with the choir. Elna had always painted but in her later years found her true love, watercolors. She was a member of the water color society and taught basic drawing. Elna's younger sister Farrell and her husband John Kleem live in Ohio. She will be greatly missed by her many generations of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who loved her dearly. A Catholic Mass will be held at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014. Interment will be held at the Sacred Heart Basilica in Hanover, Pennsylvania.
