Hawk Eye, The (Burlington, IA) - Tuesday, February 17, 2015 Deceased Name: Mary Reed Mrs. Mary Frances Reed, 80, of Burlington died at 11:24 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015, at Great River Medical Center after a 37 year battle with cancer which affected her heart. Born September 20, 1934, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Glenn F. and Mildred Mathilda (Schachel) Davis. On December 12, 1954, she married George D. Reed in Burlington. Mrs. Reed was a 1952 graduate of Burlington High School and also attended a year at Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri. She worked in both Dr. Fuller's office as a dental assistant and in Dr. Sperow's office as a receptionist. George and Mary lived for a time in Chillicothe, Iowa. Mrs. Reed was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Red Hat Society, and the Hospital Auxiliary at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, George Reed of Burlington; two sons, Bryan Davis Reed of Raleigh, North Carolina and Thomas Daniel (Elizabeth) Reed of Knightdale, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Kathy Reed of Versailles, Kentucky; two granddaughters, Dr. Brooke (Aaron) Browning of Knoxville, Tennessee and Kelly Reed of Clearwater, Florida; one grandson, David Reed of San Antonio, Texas; and one sister, Janice (Rufus) Small of Oak Harbor, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson. The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Reed will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 20th, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with the Rev. David Yonker officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
