Smith, 94, of Burlington, died at 2:45 am Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at the Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Toulon, IL. Born August 18, 1917, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Walter John and Mathilda Louise Schachel Horn. On June 28, 1952, she married Robert F. "Pete" Smith in Burlington. He died on June 20, 1988. She was a cashier and bookkeeper at the Burlington Hawkeye Gazette and later a receptionist for Dr. Milford Nelson, optometrist. She was a 1935 graduate of Denmark High School in Denmark, IA. She was a member of First United Church of Christ, where she was a church elder, and Burlington Chapter #545 of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing pinochle, working in the yard, flowers, and sewing. Survivors include one son, Wayne L. (Nancy) Kurtz of Millington, TN; one daughter, Karen L. (Richard) Knapp of Princeville, IL; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Friday, November 4, 2011 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mrs. Smith will be 11:00 AM Friday, November 4, 2011, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at First United Church of Christ following the interment. Familienmitglieder Ehepartner Robert F.
