Harlan was born on Sept. 21, 1931 in Denmark, Iowa. He spent his early years on his parents’ Des Moines farm along with his seven siblings. Harlan served in the USMC from1952-54 as a cold weather battalion instructor in California during the Korean War. In ‘56, Harlan planted his roots in Fallbrook. In ‘58, Harlan married his wife of 54 yrs, Margaret, and raised their seven children in Fallbrook. Harlan proudly served 35 years at the Fallbrook Public Utility District as a heavy machinery mechanic, before retiring in ‘94. Harlan was an amazing, friendly man known for his smiles, jokes, stubbornness, hard work and generosity. Harlan enjoyed spending time with his family & friends, fishing, boating, traveling in his RV, tinkering around in his backyard, eating popcorn and ice cream, playing original Nintendo, his morning coffee shop visits, and sitting outside his house greeting all those that passed by. Harlan is survived and loved by so many including his wife, Margaret; his children, William, David, Michael, Robin, Dawn, Holly and Jaime; his 13 grandchildren, Aaron, Robert, Christopher, Daniel, Morgan, Brittany, Tyler, Casey, Ashley, Amber, Aidan, Elliot and Addilyn; his brother Donald and sisters, Arlene and Marcelene.
