Muench born Holstein, Warren County, MO, married Louise Belle Schrieber 20 November 1912. One son, Pershing, was born to the couple. ------- Obituary (Franklin County Tribune, 2 March 1967): Eli F. Muench Eli Frederick Muench husband of Louise Belle Muench and son of the late August and Augusta Frueh Muench was born at Holstein, in Warren county on the 18th of November 1887, and died after a lingering illness at the St. Francis Hospital in Washington, Tuesday morning February 14, 1967, reaching the age of 79 years 2 months and 26 days. Mr. Muench received his education at Holstein, he was christened in the Evangelical Church there at an early age, and remained a life long member of the church. At the age of 14 he became a sheet metal and plumber apprentice, he settled in Union in 1908 where he practiced this trade until a little over a year ago when his health began to fail. On November 20, 1912 he was united in marriage to Miss Louise Belle Schrieber and to this union one son was born. Surviving are his wife, one son Pershing of St. Louis, one daughter-in-law, Shirley, one niece, Mrs. Jeanette Schreiber Waters of Spartanburg, S.C., 7 grandchildren, and one great grandson. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Muench was instrumental in establishing the first fire department in Union, which at that time consisted of a cart and a quantity of canvas buckets. He remained active in this organization over 50 years. He served several terms on the city council and was always interested in the community affairs. Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16th at the Meyer Funeral Home in Union, with interment in the Union Cemetery, Rev. John Stevesand officiating. ------- Portrait prints to right are of Mr. Eli Muench’s great grandfather and step great grandmother. Pastor Friedrich Muench, along with Paul Follenius, led the Giessen Emigration Society to America with the hope of establishing a democratic state.
