Knickle 2002 The Daily News (From the collection of Charlene Veinotte) Frederick S. Knickle, 81, Hantsport, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2002, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Fred was born at Blue Rocks, a son of the late Fenwick and Iona (Hynick) Knickle. Surviving are his wife, the former Bernice Coffin, Hantsport; son, George (Brenda) Knickle, Hamilton; daughters, Judith Anne (Mervyn) Swaine and Barbara-Ann (Jamie) Swindells, both of Hantsport; grandchildren, Adam Knickle, Sydney Swain and Natasha Spencer, Justin and Shawn Swindells; sisters, Barbara Tanner (Cyril) and Elva Bartlett, all of Lunenburg. He was predeceased by a brother, in childhood. Fred spent three years of his life with the West Nova Regiment. When it was discovered he was a tradesman, he was transferred to the Ordinance Corps for two years. He spent 18 years on the Coast Guard ship, the Louis S.St.Laurent, the first ship to sail around North America. Fred and Bernice also owned and operated Avon Shoe Store in Hantsport. Fred was a very well-spoken man who was known for his wit. Retiring in 1981, he enjoyed watching baseball, playing cards, and spending time talking with family and friends. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Lucknow Branch 109, Hantsport. Funeral service 2 p.m. today, April 13, in Lohnes-Beazley Funeral Home, Windsor, Rev. Charles Milbury officiating. Interment in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hants Community Hospital or Mount Denson Baptist Church.
