Born in Stonehurst on June 6, 1932, he was a son of the late John and Margaret (Whynacht) Knickle. For 45 years Alfred was employed as a sheet metal worker, many of those years at Lunenburg Foundry, and then for Albert Himmelman and SeaCoast HVAC Ltd. before retiring in 1991. Alfred was devoted to his family and loved spending time with them. This devotion and love also extended to the church where he was a member, St. Paul's United Church, Blue Rocks, and served as an elder for 30 years. Alfred enjoyed playing the guitar and often gathered for "sing-songs" with family and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially boating and mackerel fishing, and will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know him. He is survived by his loving wife, Mona; daughters, Karen (David) Harrigan, Halifax; Nicole (Shane) Patelakis, Charlottetown; sister, Doreen (Eric) Nowe, Centre; grandchildren, John, Shawn, Kyle and Alyssa. He was predeceased by son, Graham. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Highway No. 3, Lunenburg, with visitation for family on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral to celebrate Alfred's life will be held for friends and family on Friday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's United Church, Blue Rocks, Rev. Robert Zinck officiating. Interment will follow at Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery, Blue Rocks.
