(From the collection of Gwen Christie) Captain Donald Rayburn Weaver, 64, Whynott's Settlement, died Saturday, November 23, 2002, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Blue Rocks, he was a son of the late Currie and Lena (Tanner) Weaver. Donnie went to sea at the age of 12, sailing with Captain Tom Pittman and then with Captain Douglas Himmelman, carrying supplies to the north. Later he went scallop fishing with Clearwater and sailed as mate with Captain Rockwell Weaver on the Lunenburger. At this time Donnie received the captain's license and sailed the Terry Doreen, the Angela Michelle, A.F. Pierce and Ernest E. Pierce. He was then a part owner and captain of the fishing draggers, C&D and Wispering Sea. He is survived by his son, Timmy and his wife Sheila Rose, Whynott's Settlement; and his daughter Suzanne and her husband Daniel Locke, Mader's Cove; grandchildren, Charley, Matthew, Nicholas, Jose, and Danica; sisters, Helen Greek, First South; Ina (Nelson Tanner), Blue Rocks; Joanne (Mervyn Shauffenburg), Back Centre; brothers, Rockwell (Rose) Weaver, Garden Lots; Gordon (Loretta), Liverpool. He was predeceased by sister, Charlotte Allen; an infant brother, David. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, where memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Rev. Douglas Moore officiating. Interment will be in Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery. Flowers from the immediate family only. Memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society or any other charity. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
