He was born November 24, 1921 in Day Spring, Nova Scotia, son of the late Judson and Elsie (Weigle) Hewitt and had lived in Framingham, MA prior to moving to Canton 53 years ago. Leslie was a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, MA. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. where he worked on the engines of the B-25 Mitchell Bombers. Mr. Hewitt was employed as an aircraft engine test engineer for Pratt & Whitney East Hartford for 37 years prior to his retirement in 1977. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law; Peggy and Richard Jones, and Carol and Ken Mroz all of Torrington; two sisters, Marie Campbell of Cheshire, and Kathleen Anderson of Stoneham, MA; two brothers, Harry Hewitt of North Billerica, MA, and David Hewitt of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; four grandchildren, Mark Jones, Nicole Cattey and her husband, Martin, Jennifer Mroz, and Eric Mroz; and a great grandchild, Jacob Cattey. The Family would like to thank Verona Williams for her dedicated and loving care of Leslie. Funeral will be Tuesday, May 24, 1 p.m. at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton with the Rev. Dwight Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Dyer Cemetery, Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canton Memorial Ambulance, 51 River Road, Collinsville, CT 06019 or to the Canton Police Benevolent Association, 45 River Rd., Collinsville, CT 06019.
