She was born at home in Hanover on March 6, 1933, to Richard and Marie (Strehler) Mahler. She attended “The Little White Church” just a stone’s throw from her home north of Hanover, and attended school in Hanover and Buffalo. She later worked at the Sunshine Food Co. in Minneapolis. In December 1954, she met Charles Wokson in St. Michael. They were married Sept. 24, 1955. The Woksons farmed their land north of Rogers for almost 40 years before retiring to Rogers in 1994. She always enjoyed working in her garden, yard and home. She loved cooking, baking and entertaining family and friends. She also loved polka music. Mrs. Wokson taught all of her children to be volunteers by her example, and for many years she adopted a family anonymously at Christmas. In 1998, soon after Mr. Wokson died, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and was a 12-year survivor. In 2005, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She was able to remain in her home until December 2008. The funeral service was Monday, Jan. 10 at Hanover Zion United Methodist Church. Interment was at Vernon Cemetery in Elk River. Pallbearers were Bryon Gustafson, Paul Olson, Ron Prasek, Mike Stewart, and Allen and Ernie Wokson. The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home served the family. She is survived by her children, Marion (Steve) Conwell, Craig (Jan), and Gail Ness (Dick Kruger); eight grandchildren; brother, Don (Lois); and many other relatives and friends. In addition to husband, Charles, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary; grandson, Douglas; sister, Ruth; and brother-in-law, Byron Gustafson.
