Burial will be in the Hecla Cemetery. Stewart passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Avera-St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen at the age of 77. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton. Stewart Merklin Ruenz was born October 14, 1934, at Hecla, SD to Jacob M. and Leda (Dinger) Ruenz. When Stewart was three years old, his mother passed away so Stewart spent weekdays with his grandparents and attended the Fred Dinger School. He graduated from Hecla High School in 1952. During his high school years, Stewart participated on the basketball, football, baseball and track teams, and earned the nickname, "Bruiser." Stewart took up farming with his dad after graduation. He married Joyce Luttrell and they had three children, Stewart, Jr. "Lynn," Jeffrey and Lissa. In 1973 he married Janie Carr. He adopted her daughter, Bonnie, and together they had Roxanne. He began working at Lahman Manufacturing and soon formed Ruenz Construction. Stewart married Jeanette Robb on June 13, 1998. After their marriage, Stewart moved to her farm, where they have lived since that time. Stewart continued to do small carpenter jobs, and spent much time keeping up his backyard and flower gardens. He enjoyed spending time with their combined families. Stewart was lovingly called "Papa," not only by his grandchildren, but by many who knew him. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Jeanette, of Ellendale, ND; two sons: Lynn (Carma) and Jeffrey of Hecla; three daughters: Lissa Eisenzimmer of Grand Forks, ND; Bonnie (Brian) Hall of Kelso, WA; Roxanne (Brian) Phipps of Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren: Jake Ruenz, Hecla; Josh (fiancé, Jessica Fesenmaier) Ruenz, Aberdeen; Lyndse (fiance, Ryan Dellman) Ruenz, Sioux Falls; Jodi (Kelly) Hebl, Grand Forks; Casy Eisenzimmer, Fargo; Joey (Melissa) Eisenzimmer, Yuma, AZ; Mason and Alyson Hall, Kelso, WA; Aby, Brayden and Camden Phipps, Sioux Falls; six great-grandchildren: Rally Quensenberry, Shanel Bushby, Autumn Hebl, Isla Joy Hebl, Treyton and Jaelynn Ruenz. He is also survived by Jeanette's children, Douglas (Delma) Robb of Pensecola, FL; James (Heidi) Robb of Maple Grove, MN; Kirby (Karla) Robb of South Heart, ND; and her grandchildren, Meranda, Alex, Brittany, Jacob, Molly and Megan Robb.
