BIOGRAPHIE: Nicholas along with his father, Mathias and brother John came to thiscountry in 1872. They lived in the Chicago area working in the coalmines of LaSalle, Illinois for four years. Mathias returned toGermany, was taken ill and died at the age of 54. John went toWathena, Kansas and Nicholas to New Ulm, MN where he married Margaret JENNIGES of Sigel Township, Brown Co., MN. He secured a homestead of80 acres in section 22, Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, MN. Hisfarmstead grew to 400 acres and he lived here the rest of his life. 1 2 2
