Notes for this person
Nachrichten: From the Andale Centennial book:Frank Grassl had come over from Germany on the same boat that the Anton Forsters came on. They arrived safely in spite of a fire on the boat wich the passengers helped put out with a bucket brigade. The family settled in Wisconsin and then in Kansas.Frank's relatives had picked out a girl for him to marry in Wisconsin but he fell in love at first sight with another girl, Rosalia Grall; they were married on June 7, 1886. and returned to Kansas to farm. They moved to Andale in 1893.The Grassl family members were devout Catholics; they hunted for a German-Catholic community with good schools and religious teaching. Father George Meyer, Andale's first resident pastor, published an article in the "Landsman" magazine, extolling the virtues of Andale. Frank came and stayed. Both Frank and Rose were active in community and church. Frank served many years on the city council and church committee; Rose was active in the Farm Bureau and served as president of the Alta Society for years. They are both buried in Andale.
