Notes for this person

Herman Henry emigrated to the US a young man and probably landed in Baltimore, Maryland in August 1853. He then travelled to Pittsburgh, where he established a sort of boarding house or halfway house for other German immigrants while they where getting established in their new country. Herman Henry died from complications following a broken hip. (Quelle: http://www.tribalpages.com/tribes?userid=tgarner&view=0& pid=, 189) Henry (as was usually, known) and Catherine settled in Pittsburgh, PA and until his death operated a sort of hotel or boarding house for German immigrants. This domicile provided a place where the new arrivals could communicate in German eat German food and learn some of the basics needed to make it on their own in America. From all indications this was a profitable venture and they were able to a mass a small fortune that was quickly dissipated by their children through less than successful business enterprises of their own. After Henry's death Catherine moved to Cincinnati, Hamilton, OH and lived with my father's family until her death in 1909. (Howard Charles "Bud" Koverman) ---------------- 28.
