ROBERT Joseph HELMKAMP

Robert J. HELMKAMP, 70, Avilla, died Thursday, March 28, 1996, in his home. He was born February 12, 1926, in Cloverdale, OH, to Bernard and Hilda (KOLHOFF) HELMKAMP. He retired in 1988 from Zollner Piston, Fort Wayne, after 23 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 240, Avilla, and St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Avilla. He married Alberta FISCHER, May 28, 1949. She died march, 1971. He married Rosealma VIGNEAUX November 29, 1974. She survives. Other survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Tom (Linda) JANSEN, Mrs. Hal (Cheryl) BARKER, Mrs. Scott (Ruth) DURBIN and Ann HELMKAMP, all of Kendallville, and Mrs. Tim (Cathy) DANCER, Swanton, OH; five sons, Ralph, Kenneth, Stephen and Vincent, all of Avilla; and Phillip, Albion; two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Mary) LEY, Avilla, and Mrs. Bill (Joann) ALFRED, Fort Wayne; five brothers, Donald, LaGrange, Gerald, Venice, Richard, Avilla, Paul, Fort Wayne, and James, Auburn; 27 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles; and one brother, John. The funeral was Saturday in St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Avilla, with Father Daniel Durkin officiating. Burial was in St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery, Avilla, with military graveside services by American Legion Post 240. Preferred memorials were to St. Mary?s Catholic Church or Compre-Care Hospice.
