Shirley Louise DUESBERG

Notes for SHIRLEY LOUISE DUESBERG: Shirley Louise was born on Feb. 20, 1928 to parents, John Joseph Duesberg & Agnes Catherine Nauer at her grandparent Nauer's farm where Louise Nauer helped deliver her. Shirley's middle name is named for her Grandmother Nauer, Louise. Gayle,her second daughter's middle name is also Louise to carry on the family name. Gayle's daughter Krista Louise also carries the Louise tradition. Her grandparents, Moritz Thomas and Louise Catherine Nauer were her Godparents. She was an only child for a long time and she really didn't want any brothers or sisters. She was spoiled and she liked it. Her dad didn't really want anymore children either. He liked spoiling her but mom knew that there would be more children! Her mother was an excellent seamtress and made all of her dresses.She got a brother, Joe Dean, when she was 9 1/2. Then there were three more siblings that joined the family. She went to Selden Rural Schools. When she was in grade school she began taking piano lessons from Charlene Cheney who later married Selden High School teacher,George Lister. Shirley became an excellent piano player. She loved to play boogie woogie music but she could play anything she wanted. Shirley was popular when she was in high school. She was small, petite and cute. Her hair was natural curly and a medium brown. She wore it casual & long. She liked to go to dances and enjoyed partying with friends. She played high school sports. After high school graduation in 1940, she went to Brown Mackie Business School in Denver, Colo. where she graduated. She worked in a Denver Bank. The president, Max Brooks, went to country school with her mother east of Jennings,Ks. She got tired of Denver and came back to Selden where she opened a Dress Shop and became her dad's propane store secretary. She ran it four or five years and did okay but she couldn't see any future living in Selden as a young single. She sold her store property and went to Royal Oak, Mich., a suberb of Detroit where she got a job. She had dated a service man from Royal Oak in Denver. When she went to Royal Oak to visit him she found out that he had just gotten married or was about to get married. The man, Bernie Danhausen's sister, Beverly was a senior in high school. She was going steady with Kenneth Sharkey. Bev & Kenny introduced her to his older brother, Willard Sharkey. Shirley got a job and lived at the Danhausen house until her and Willard started dating steadily. Shirley & Willard fell in love and got married on Nov. 30, 1953 at Sacred Heart Cath. Church, Selden,Ks. Father Patrick Cronin officiated. Their wittnesses were Mary Elaine Moheng & Paul Moritz Nauer. Shirley & Willard lived in an apartment in Royal Oak at the Bartons. They saved money & worked. Beverly & Kenny got married. The two brothers worked with their father as finished carpenters. They bought a lot together and split it. They both build a new home.
