Etta Marie PAULS

Notes for ETTA MARIE PAULS: Taken from her funeral card. Etta Marie Sulzman was born May 8, 1928 at her family's home in Leoville, Kansas, the seventh of eight children born to Peter Daniel and Margaret Ann (Duesberg) Pauls. She passed away at her residence in Selden, Ks. on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at the age of 75. Etta Marie was raised in Leoville and attended Leoville Grade School. In 1938, her family moved to Selden where she finished her education, graduating in 1946. Etta Marie then worked at the Dew Drop Inn in Selden until her marriage. On May 23, 1950, Etta Marie was united in marriage to Johnnie Sulzman in a triple wedding with her sisters and fiance's, Pauline and Leo Grace; and Lavina and John Rogers. They made Selden their home and were blessed with five children. Johnny and Etta Marie owned and operated Sulzman Gas Co. in Selden. In additiion, Etta Marie worked at the U.S. Post Office in Selden. She became Postmaster on February 12, 1977 and retired from civil service to come home and enjoy her family on February 29, 1987. Etta Marie was a membr of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Alter Society and belonged to the Christmas Club in Selden. She also served as an officer to the Selden Rural High School Alumni for several years. Her favorite hobbies and pasttimes included sewing, attending auctions, playinf cards and Tripoley. Her faith and love of her family was evident in the way she lived her life. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and love for life. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Johnnie on Oct. 17, 1996; son-in-law, Kenny Sabatka on June 14, 1994; brother, Martin Pauls and sisters Eulalia Berls Mayo, Juletta Boultinghouse and Amelia Sulzman. Survivors include four sons, Wayne Sulzman and wife, Deanna of Colby, Kelvin Sulzman and wife, Vicky of Oakley; Loran Sulzman of Selden and Randy Sulzman of Oakley; one daughter, Rhonda Sabatka of Selden; six grandchildren: Dana Foss and husband Justin, of Colby; Carrie Sulzman of Manhattan, Brian Sulzman of Colby, Stacy Wolf and husband, Brian of Grinnel; Kayla Weigel and husband, Bruce of Dodge City and Adam Sabatka of Selden; three great-granddaughters: Baily and Brittany Foss and Ainsley Wolf; a brother, Richard Pauls and wife, Betty of Selden; two sisters, Pauline Grace and husband, Leo of Midland, Tx. and Lavina Thomas of Wheatridge, Co. nephews and neices and many friends.
