Alfred Theodore ELLERBROCK

Alfred T. "Peanuts" Ellerbrock, 102, died at 10:04 p.m. Feb. 23, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born May 18, 1909, in New Cleveland to William and Mary Otto Ellerbrock, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 9, 1935, he married Marcella P. Hermiller, who died July 20, 1978. Mr. Ellerbrock was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida, and its Holy Name Society. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2234, Ottawa. He was a promoter of Devotion of the Sacred Heart of Jesus; a volunteer at Putnam Acres Care Center, where he was Volunteer of the Year in 2001; a volunteer at Calvary Manor Nursing Home, Glandorf; and was a prayer partner at St. Michael Elementary School for several years. He was well known for his famous baked beans. His 101st birthday was announced by Willard Scott on The Today Show. Survivors include 11 children, JoAnn (Eugene) Otto, of Ottawa, Marilyn (Ted) Sealts, of Fort Jennings, Donald (Janet) Ellerbrock, George (Marilyn) Ellerbrock and Thomas (Ruth) Ellerbrock, all of Columbus Grove, Eugene (Marge) Ellerbrock, of Kalida, Janice (Sam) Golden, of Lima, Dennis (Karen) Ellerbrock and Gerald Ellerbrock, both of Kalida, Christine (Dennis) Horstman, of Cloverdale, and Michael (Barb Niese) Ellerbrock, of Kalida; 33 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and his Jack Russell Terrier, Zim, who was his faithful companion. He was preceded in death by a grandchild; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Philip and Gilbert Ellerbrock; and two sisters, Amelia Ellerbrock and Susanna Kahle. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida. Father Mark Hoying will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
