It is with great sadness and yet rejoicing that the family of Marilyn Renfro announces her passing on December 24th while on her way to visit family in Waleska, Georgia. She was 81. Marilyn Renfro was born in Carmi Illinois, the daughter of Carl and Vida Roser. She has resided in Quitman, Georgia since 1971. She attended local public schools in Carmi and graduated from Carmi High School in 1948. Marilyn graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in Elementary Education. A dedicated teacher, Marilyn later completed a Masters degree in Reading and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership. She was a retired teacher and was widely recognized for her excellent teaching skills with Brooks County Public Schools. She concluded her career as the County Reading Coordinator. She also served as a mentor for teachers and received numerous awards over her lifetime. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Quitman and taught Sunday School for fifty years. She was actively involved in outreach ministries including Options Now and was an active volunteer at SGMC and Forever Young. Marilyn was a strong believer in the Christian faith and treated everyone in her life with love and respect. She was never happier than when she was entertaining family and friends in her home or spending time with her grandchildren! Marilyn was predeceased by her parents Carl and Vida Roser of Carmi Illinois and her son, Kevin Renfro of Conyers, GA. Surviving members include son, Mark Renfro, brothers Lowell and Charles Roser of Carmi, Illinois. She is also survived by JoAnne Renfro Poidevant and her husband John, grandchildren Kalyn, Erica, K. C., and great great grandson Kayden Eric Harris. Marilyn is also survived by her loving husband, Dr. Thomas Renfro who brought her joy and happiness during their marriage of almost 60 years. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 27th at First Baptist Church Quitman from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. A Memorial Service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held on Monday, December 28th at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Quitman, Georgia. The family wishes to thank family, friends and neighbors who gave their support, love, and prayers during this difficult time. Marilyn and her family have requested, in lieu of flowers, that donations would be greatly appreciated for Options Now or Peru Mission Outreach with Quitman First Baptist Church.
