Er wurde wie seine Ehefrau auf dem Zions Stone Church Cemetery in New Ringgold im Schuylkill County im State Pennsylvania beigesetz. He lived in West Penn at the outbreak of the Civil War and was a strong Union man. When Lee invaded Pennsylvania, he enlisted in Company E, 27th Regiment, Pa. Vols. This regiment checked Lee's advance at Columbia, Pa., by burning the bridge across the Susquehanna. In his early days he served as 1st lieutenant and captain of a troop of the State Volunteer Militia Cavalry
