John A. Heckman, 82, of Mohrsville, died Monday, February 3, 2014 in his residence. He was the husband of Christine A. (Mitchell) Heckman. They were married on March 26, 1955 and celebrated 58 years of marriage. Born in Strausstown, he was the son of the late John and Florence (Schlappich) Heckman. John was a U.S.Army veteran. He worked as a plumber for Blanski and Phillips, Reading, for thirty years until his retirement. John was a 50-year member of Plumbers Union of Philadelphia Local 690. He was a member of Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, Leesport. John was also a member of Central Berks Fire Company and relief association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing with his great-grandkids. John was also a Philadelphia Phillies fan. Surviving in addition to his wife is one son: Perry A. Heckman, husband of Lori E. (Swendsen) Heckman, Mohrsville; one daughter: Denise A. (Heckman), wife of Timothy J. Emmick, Mohrsville; four grandchildren: Brandon, and his wife Jennifer; Devon, and his fiancé Kristin; Cory, and his wife Bonnie; and Erica, and her husband Dana; and three great-grandchildren: Addison, Logan, and Bradyn. John is also survived by two brothers: Michael Heckman, Rehrersburg; and James Heckman, Womelsdorf; and one sister: Dolores Hickernell, Trout Run. He was predeceased by a grandson: Dustin John Emmick; and three siblings. A visitation with the family will be held on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport, PA 19533. Burial will be private in Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery, Centre Twp. Memorial contributions may be sent to Bethany E.C. Church, 308 Main Street, Leesport, PA 19533, in memory of John A. Heckman.
