Notes for this person
Wesley D. King, 84 years old and a farmer of three miles west of Plevna, was found dead Monday morning in his room at the Edina Cafe apartments, where he had been staying the last two weeks, by Jim Rossiter and Andrew Byrne of Edina who went to investigate when he did not come downstairs for breakfast. It is presumed that he died about 9 o'clock Sunday evening, Oct. 21,1962. Funeral services were at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with the Rev. Carroll Kakac of Novelty officiating. Burial was in the Hickman Cemetery west of Plevna. He is survived by two brothers, Paul King of Novelty and Joe King of Overland Park, Kansas, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. King was born Aug. 23, 1873, west of Plevna, one of the three sons of Joseph G. and Ruth Ellen Deer King. He was first married in 1902 to Mattie [sic] Mae Hickman who died July 25, 1907. In February, 1908, he was married to Laura Belle Hickman and she also preceded him in death April 12,1948. There were no children of either marriage. He was a life-long resident of the Plevna community and was a member of the Plevna Christian Church. He was preceded in death also by his parents, who lived in Edina some years prior to 1907 during which time the father served two terms as Sheriff and Treasurer of Knox County, then operated the Victor Hotel under his name, and later retumed to the Plevna community. EDINA SENTINEL, 25 Oct. 1962, p. 1.
