Notes for this person
Sarah Hesler, 94 [sic] years of age, died at her home in Georgetown Tuesday morning at 7 o'clock. She had been ill since Friday. Mrs. Hessler [sic] was one of the oldest citizens of the County and had lived about Georgetown and Fairmount nearly her entire life. Before her marriage she was Sarah Hickman and was the last surviving member of her family which was a prominent one in Vermilion County affairs. Mrs. Hessler [sic], at the time of her death, lived with her daughter Mrs. Sandifer in Georgetown. The deceased was born in Ohio and came west in her girlhood days, living for a number of years about Fairmount after which she moved to Georgetown where she remained until her death. Her husband, who was a farmer and a veteran of the Civil War, died fifteen years ago. Mrs. Hessler [sic],besides the daughter with whom she lived, leaves three sons: George of Terre Haute and Andrew And William, who live in Kansas. She was a sister of the late Hiram Hickman, who was one or the first sheriffs Vermilion County ever had and who was at the time assessor and collector. Deceased was known to many in Danville and was a great aunt of O. C. Brant. Although she lived to a very advanced age she was always well until her sickness a few days ago which caused her death. She was possessed of a remarkably strong mind. Mrs Hessler [sic] was a good woman and an active member ot the Cumberland Presbyterian Church which institution she loyally supported. The funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock from the home and interment will take place in Georgetown Cemetery." DANVILLE COMMERCIAL-NEWS, 23 May 1905, p. 1
